Clapton/Winwood -- how good does it get!?!?!
I generally don't prefer to go see performances of musicians I loved 'back in the day'. I made an exception for this because I believe the blues cuts across all ages. Some memories are best untouched. For this reason, I don't want to know they've lost a step. I've seen 'em at 16 and at 80 sitting in a venue watching one of the greats. And I believed that I'd see evolution here, not an attempt to recreate what was. I don't need to see 60 year old women throwing underwear and squealing, or their pot-bellied mates wearing tie-dyed t-shirts. I prefer my memories unadulterated.
Couldn't have loved this anymore than I did. Wonderful mix of well-known music with less performed/familiar tunes too. Nobody gets stale...not them and not us. This was a slice of heaven. So glad I was there and happy to see these guys, particularly Beat - Band, looking well and squared away after a long hard battle. We've all lived a lot of life since the "Clapton is God" days and this concert touched the past without hanging out there like it was all perfect then. It honored the present and gave us something to look forward to.
